Recipe Instructions:

Ingredients:
• 500g onions, thinly sliced
• 1 liter beef broth
• 100ml white wine
• 100g butter
• 1 baguette, sliced
• 200g Gruyère cheese, grated
• Salt and pepper to taste
• Fresh thyme (optional), for garnish
Instructions:
1. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized (about 30-40 minutes).
2. Add the white wine and simmer until reduced by half.
3. Add the beef broth, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for another 20 minutes.
4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
5. Preheat the broiler. Place the baguette slices on a baking sheet and broil until toasted.
6. Ladle the soup into oven-safe bowls, place a toasted baguette slice on top, and sprinkle with Gruyère cheese.
7. Broil until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
8. Garnish with fresh thyme if desired and serve hot.
