Main Dish

Recipe Instructions:

Ingredients:
• 4 Belgian endives
• 4 slices of ham
• 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese (or other cheese of choice)
• 2 tablespoons butter
• 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
• 1 cup milk
• Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Remove outer leaves from the endives and cut a small V-shaped wedge from the base to remove any bitterness.
3. Wrap each endive in a slice of ham and place in a greased baking dish.
4. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
5. Gradually whisk in milk, stirring constantly until smooth and thickened.
6. Remove from heat and stir in half of the grated cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
7. Pour cheese sauce over the wrapped endives in the baking dish.
8. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown on top.
10. Serve chicons au gratin hot as a main dish.
