Recipe Instructions:
Chana Masala (India)
Ingredients:
400g cooked chickpeas (approximately 2 cups)
1 large onion (about 200g), chopped
2 tomatoes (about 250g), chopped
3 cloves garlic (about 9g), minced
1 tablespoon ginger (about 10g), minced
2 teaspoons garam masala (approximately 4g)
1 teaspoon ground cumin (approximately 2g)
1 teaspoon ground coriander (approximately 2g)
1/2 teaspoon turmeric (approximately 1g)
1/2 teaspoon chili powder (approximately 1g)
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (approximately 30ml)
1 cup water (approximately 240ml)
Salt to taste
Fresh cilantro (for garnish, approximately 10g)
Instructions:
Heat Oil:
In a pot, heat 30ml vegetable oil over medium heat.
Add 200g chopped onion and sauté until golden.
Add Aromatics:
Add 9g minced garlic and 10g minced ginger. Cook for about 2 minutes.
Add Spices:
Stir in 4g garam masala, 2g ground cumin, 2g ground coriander, 1g turmeric, and 1g chili powder. Cook for 1 minute.
Cook Tomatoes:
Add 250g chopped tomatoes and cook until they are softened and start to break down.
Add Chickpeas and Simmer:
Add 400g cooked chickpeas and 240ml water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes.
Season and Garnish:
Season with salt to taste.
Garnish with 10g chopped fresh cilantro.
Serve:
Serve with rice or naan.
