Recipe Instructions:
Ingredients (Makes 6-8 buns):
240 grams whole-wheat flour
1 tablespoon (15 ml) honey or maple syrup
1 tablespoon (15 ml) olive oil
1 teaspoon (5 grams) salt
240 ml warm water
1 packet (7 grams or 2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
Instructions:
o In a large bowl, combine warm water, honey or maple syrup, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
o Add olive oil, salt, and whole-wheat flour to the yeast mixture. Mix until the dough comes together.
o Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
o Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
o Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
o Punch down the dough and divide it into 6-8 equal portions.
o Shape each portion into a ball and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
o Flatten each ball slightly with your hand.
o Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
o Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
